Devon Primary SCITT

Devon Primary SCITT was an award-winning Initial Training Course which trained over 750 primary teachers in schools across the county between 2000 and 2024.  Run by a partnership of 50 schools, the course was recognised as one of the most successful providers in the country, securing outstanding Ofsted judgements in each of its inspections, frequently topping government surveys of new teachers as well as being awarded the prestigious School-Based Provider of the Year by NASBTT in 2019.

Following the government’s ITT Market Review, new requirements were introduced for the future provision of initial teacher training. Whilst DPSCITT was successfully accredited as a provider for this, the partnership felt that the combination of meeting new requirements alongside having no increases to funding for 12 years meant that the quality of the programme could not be guaranteed moving forward. The decision was therefore made to close the programme following the graduation of the 2023-24 cohort.

Whilst the programme has closed, DPSCITT lives on through its former trainees who are making a difference to the lives of young people across Devon and beyond.
